Death From Above 1979 fall under the category of bands that release one amazing album and then split up leaving scores of fans bitterly disappointed at the prospect of not hearing anything from them again. Hailing from Toronto, Death From Above 1979 play a unique style of dance/punk/noise combining distorted bass riffs with a dance inducing energy. In 2004 they released their first studio album, ‘I’m A Woman, You’re A Machine’ to critical acclaim. Stand out tracks like ‘Romantic Rights’ and ‘Blood On Our Hands’ gave the band a huge following on both sides of the pond. Not long after drummer Sebastien Grainger and Bassist Jesse F. Keeler found themselves in disagreement in terms of creative differences and direction. After a lengthy period of silence they announced their split in 2006. Fans could still enjoy their individual projects, most notably MSTRKRFT, but it was a reunion that all the band’s followers were hoping for. Finally this year they announced that Death From Above 1979 would be reforming. Despite no word of new releases as yet the band have confirmed several dates including two special concerts in London.
The power that this band is able to create from just using two instruments gives them an appealing edge. Crushingly distorted bass and pounding drums are relentlessly hurtled crowd-wards for the entire set. Whether you want to clear a space in the crowd to fulfill the urges to dance uncontrollably or simply stand there and soak up the power, its up to you but whatever happens you’ll be glad you got your Death From Above 1979 tickets. The band’s time away felt like forever. Most fans probably gave up on the idea of their reforming. Now that it is official the few concerts they have announced will quite simply be huge. At their debut reunion concert at the SXSW festival in the States so many fans tried to catch a glimpse of the band that a riot eventually ensued. The police probably won’t be involved at the London shows but the energy will be just as intense!
If you were one of those who really did believe they’d never come back then Death From Above 1979 tickets have got to be top of your list. For any fan of noise rock this will be the biggest concert of the year. Don’t worry about being unable to get hold of tickets - we’ve searched the web for the best places to find available tickets.
