Changing you’re name is commonplace amongst stars, think Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Elton John etc. Engelbert Humperdinck, although an odd choice being the name of the German composer responsible for the opera Hansel and Gretel, it has certainly worked for Arnold George Dorsey...or Engelbert Humperdinck as he of course prefers to be called. Born in India in 1936 Humperdinck first started out in music learning the saxophone and performing in clubs. By pure chance he met up with an old friend, Gordon Mills, who was managing Tom Jones at the time. Under Mills’ management Humperdinck enjoyed a little success in Europe. It was when he appeared on Sunday Night at the London Palladium and sang his single ‘Release Me’ that his career took off and he went straight to number one knocking The Beatles off the top spot. Whilst Jones provided his almost purely sexually charged performances, Humperdinck was a little different with his relaxed style and classic good looks.
Imagine an Engelbert Humperdinck concert and you’ll probably picture yourself in a huge Las Vegas arena with all the neon lights and kitsch the city has to offer. This is perhaps true but not always as the man himself is touring the U.K. this year. Engelbert Humperdinck never fails when he’s in front of a crowd, all the ladies in the audience will confirm this! Whether you’re buying Engelbert Humperdinck tickets for yourself, a spouse or mother it will definitely be a night to remember. With guaranteed classics such as ‘This Is What You Mean To Me’ and ‘After The Lovin’’, as well as a few surprises let Engelbert prove why he is one of the greatest pop singers of all time.
