Erasure began after Vince Clarke placed an advert in the Melody Maker magazine. Before this Clarke was a founding member in Depeche Mode where he penned one of their greatest hits ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’. He then went on to form Yazoo with singer Alison Moyet but the project was short lived. It was from the subsequent magazine advert that Clarke placed that one of Britain’s best known synth-pop bands would be formed. Despite initial difficulty breaking through, what followed was hit after hit coming from a string of acclaimed albums. Within only a few years Vince Clarke and Andy Bell had created not only a defining band of the 80s but one of the great British pop acts.
