Funeral Party started out like many bands do. They grew up in a town where there’s nothing to do and nowhere to go - the only logical escape is to get some instruments and form a band in the hope of one day being able to leave. Well, Funeral Party did just that and not only left but became one of the hottest tipped bands for 2011. Funeral Party went from playing in back gardens and borrowing instruments to being invited to record with The Mars Volta’s sound engineer. This connection is pretty fitting given Funeral Party’s tendency to mix styles, which at their root share a lot in common with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala’s various projects.

When they were taken into the studio for the first time the band still didn’t have their own instruments. What’s more, they only had three songs none of which had lyrics. Funeral Party have gone a long way since then though. Their links to Mars Volta have brought them a lot of luck in the form of Rodriguez-Lopez making a guest spot on their debut LP and being invited to open for the band. You could say the luck ran out a little afterwards as no sooner had they got some equipment of their own together their van got stolen, along with the gear! Funeral Party kept on going and started playing more and more live shows and attracting attention both in the U.S. and in Europe for their high energy but upbeat sound.
