2008 saw a huge release for the British music industry. After managing to build up incredible hype as an unsigned act Glasvegas brought out their self-titled debut effort. With a new album in April 2011 the band look set to make even more waves in the music world. Formed in 2003 by cousins James Allan and Rab Allan Glasvegas began playing shows in and around their native Glasgow. With MySpace making it possible for unsigned bands to easily spread word they started growing a following. After a show in Glasgow Glasvegas caught the attention of Carl Barat who invited them to support his Libertines side project Dirty Pretty Things. In no time at all the word was out and they were selling out shows around the U.K. What resulted was an intense bidding war between major labels to sign what was promising to be a hugely successful band. Since their debut record the group have been touring furiously especially in north America where, unlike many other British acts, they have developed a huge fan base. If you can count Bono as a fan as well then you can take from that that you’re doing pretty well.

When there is so much excitement surrounding a band concerts can quite literally become electric and it would be fair to say this of Glasvegas. With James Allan’s charisma and thick Glaswegian accent he’s probably the perfect leader of this band. Glasvegas are one of those bands that built up their name by focusing simply on making great music and performing their songs with as much passion as possible. After their first release they did not lose any of this passion and only continued to grow as a live act not leaving a single fan disappointed after their shows. With their sophomore release this year the excitement is huge and you’d be right in thinking that their upcoming shows are going to be the epicentre of an earthquake that will rock the music world once more.
