At this point in their career, it would be really easy for the Kings of Leon to basically retire. Sure, they would still have to wake up, toss on some denim, run their hands through their beards... but once they arrived at the show, all they really have to do is hold the mic towards the audience and let the mind-bending popularity of their songs take over as the crowd sings along. But that wouldn't be much fun would it? Plus it would put to waste the years of hard work and band chemistry these guys have as they have climbed from their smokey beginning in the hills of Tennessee to the biggest stadium shows in the world.
One of the absolute coolest things about a Kings of Leon show is how their roots affect their live performance. This band of brothers grew up touring the south with their preacher father, and have no doubt attended scores of southern revivals with a call and respond ethic that mandates crowd participation. Their shared heritage has also made them one of the tightest rock acts in the world,as they share a near psychic ability to play together as one unit. If you have ever purchased Kings of Leon tickets in the past you know that the band has evolved their sound in recent years. While once a grimy southern rock and blues influenced act, they have expanded their sound for a more inclusive and stadium friendly feeling. That said, when you hear one of their earlier tracks written for the smokey road houses of the American south, projected across a stadium of 60,000 screaming fans, it is an experience like no other.
For anyone who is yet unconvinced that a Kings of Leon show is a can't miss event,we suggest watching their 2009 Live DVD, Live at the O2 London, England. The DVD features a live performance of 22 of their top songs, including Molly's Chambers, Use Somebody and of course Socks on Fire.... oops. Sex on Fire. The disc also includes behind the scenes footage of the brothers getting ready for their shows and trying their best to stay true to their country roots as legions of industry folks and adoring fans do their best to get a piece of the band.
