If Jarvis Cocker comes up with an idea its probably going to be a good one. Lets face it the guy has had some interesting ones throughout his career. Whether he is turning himself into an art exhibition in Paris or creating the foundations of one of the U.K’s most popular festivals, its worth paying attention to the bloke. This is just how the V Festival began. After the Pulp front-man decided it’d be a great idea to play two outdoor shows, on two nights, at two different venues, the stage was set. So after a few more bands were added to the bill the V Festival was born in 1996. As most of you will remember this was the glory days of Britpop - an era which has made the 90s pretty memorable...at least for music fans. The very first V96 had every big name there was at the time: Pulp, Lightning Seeds, Shed 7, Sleeper, Cast and not to forget that ever enigmatic character Gary Numan.

The V Festival has since day one featured the most prominent artists in the Pop and Rock genres. From Radiohead to The Chemical Brothers, the biggest acts have played here. With its broad appeal the festival really has something for everyone. If you feel like catching one of the best current Rock acts and then ending the night with something more dancy then its all there. One of the biggest draws of the V Festival is the reputation for its friendliness. Its often the case that you have to really keep your wits about you in festivals but V attracts a great crowd and its good organisation always guarantees a great weekend.

With the rumours that start circulating as soon as talk begins about who could possibly be headlining this year it becomes even more apparent that this will be one of the places to be this summer. Whatever the line-up we know that V is going to deliver. It has since day one and there is certainly no sign of them letting up on bringing in the best artists from around the world. Last years V Festival included headline slots from Kings of Leon and Kasabian with other artists like Faithless, Groove Armada and Florence and the Machine also making appearances.
